Little Oscar has only 10 days left to live. He is being cared for by a nurse in a pink uniform. And so, Oscar plays a game – every day of his life he lives through a decade of his life, thereby living a long, happy and full life. He matures, becomes an adult, falls in love, marries, experiences “a mid-life crisis” and grows old. In addition, every day Oscar writes a letter to God. God will take note of these letters and fulfil the wishes contained therein.

The 2002 novel "Oscar and the Lady in Pink" by the French writer Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt is wisely dark and touchingly tender. Paradoxically, it is also light-hearted, offering a view of an illusionary life with full-blooded commitment.
