Wajdi Mouawad

INCENDIES /A Terrifying Melodrama in 2 Acts/

Translated from the French by Inga Rozentāle-Peilloux

Premiere: 8 January, 2015

In the Canadian writer and director Wajdi Mouawad’s (1968 - ) play Incendies (2004), a story about love, a story about hate, and a story about reconciliation, entwine.

In order to fulfil their mother’s dying wish, Nawal’s children must return to her past, get to know their father and their brother, find their roots, and the purpose of their lives. The play's protagonists must embark on a somewhat terrifying journey – from one place to another, from the present to the past, from silence to admition. From the beginning to the end – in order to finally be together.
