A GENTLE CREATURE

The Director Mihail Gruzdov’s fantasia on Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s story theme.

Premiere: 5 November, 2014

I call this story “fantastic”, although I consider it to be incredibly real. The fantastic however, is right here – in the form of its telling” says Dostoyevsky.

Imagine a husband whose wife who has just committed suicide by jumping out of the window a few hours ago, is lying on the table. He is confused and as yet hasn’t been able to collect his thoughts. He is trying to comprehend what has just happened. Attempts to come to terms with his relationship to his wife, money, religion, memories and trying to escape them, lead him to the truth.

The short story, A Gentre Creature (1876), is one of the Russian genius Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s (1821-1881) last works – a story about the love that never existed between the Gentle creature and the Unknown one.
