BURY ME BEHIND THE BASEBOARD /A Homer-like Drama in 2 Acts/

Translated and dramatized by Regnārs Vaivars

Premiere: 21. March, 2012

Little Sasha lives with his grandmother and grandfather because his grandmother doesn’t trust her undisciplined daughter who has found herself a new husband – “an alcoholic and blood-sucker.” That is the heavy cross the grandmother has to bear. And so, that’s how since the age of four, Sasha is “a stone around her neck.” The grandmother’s love for her grandson is shallow and looks like quickly turning into tyranny.

Bury Me Behind the Baseboard (1993) is an autobiographical story by the Russian writer, actor, screen-writer, director, and translator Pavel Sanaev (1969 -) in which all the prototypes for the characters are based on real people. A very interesting, enlightened and honest story about a boy’s childhood.
